ABOUT MY BLOG

My Dad David died 10.09.13 aged 69. He had a huge love of the countryside. He loved walking and was a keen angler. I was desperate to find and own an object that summed Dad up, after an insightful conversation with a friend, I remembered his walking boots. This set me thinking... How about stepping into them and going for a walk somewhere with a body of water (sea, river, lake, canal, pond, tarn...) and stunning, just as Dad would have wanted.... Here I go in 'My Dad's Boots'

An Introduction... My Dad and Walking.

Happy New Year and Welcome to my first post of my new blog... My Dad's Boots!

My Dad, David, loved the outdoors and he passed this 'ants in your pants' need to be outdoors to me too.

The photos below show me (white beanie) and my little sister (hood) many years ago enjoying a family walk. Mum, as per usual, taking the photos and Dad guiding us. The place I think was the River Ribble near Settle a beautiful place that combined Dad's fave landscapes woodland, hills and water.

Maybe I should purchase this book for future reference:

The next photo is a more recentish photo of Dad walking our late dog Rosie on the lanes near home. This lane is just outside the village where he and Mum lived and we were brought up. He loved it there, the hills, the green space and he and Mum even managed to buy a house with a stream running through the garden!

His 'outdoor time' would prove to be limited in latter part of his life as he became Mum's carer. Mum has Alzheimer's and a myriad of other illnesses. She too was a great walker, but is sadly now wheelchair bound which is also why my walks are so poignant.

During his time caring for Mum any time Dad spent walking or fishing would be a welcome respite from the sadness and stresses, he would return refreshed and partially healed. Following his recent sudden death and Mum's continued poor health, the healing quality of being 'out' is now all the more important to me too.

All the best... MDB
